🔎 Senior Site Reliability Engineer wanted: take full ownership of the AWS infrastructure, CI/CD, and data systems behind an established consumer app
We’re hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join an established consumer app company with a small engineering team. The focus is the AWS platform behind the app: Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, observability, and the PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch systems the product depends on. The work covers reliability, security, and infrastructure cost, in close collaboration with backend engineers, as the company builds its first user-facing AI feature.
💻 Who You Are
A seasoned Site Reliability Engineer who takes genuine ownership of production infrastructure and treats its reliability, security and cost as their own responsibility An engineer who approaches infrastructure as software, favouring durable automation and well-designed systems over manual intervention Self-directed and confident setting priorities independently, weighing reliability, security and cost against the needs of the business A clear, candid communicator who shares feedback openly, assumes positive intent and builds trust with colleagues across engineering and the business Product-minded, with an interest in how infrastructure decisions affect the app and its users, and a willingness to contribute ideas beyond infrastructure
An enthusiastic adopter of AI-assisted engineering who uses it to work faster and automate routine tasks, while remaining accountable for security, correctness and production outcomes
📍 Work Type
Location: Remote (British Columbia)
Vacancy Type: This role reflects an existing vacancy
Requirements
🎯 What You’ll Do
Own the company’s AWS infrastructure end to end, continuously improving its reliability, scalability, security, performance, and cost efficiency Design, build, and maintain infrastructure as code with Terraform, and manage the Kubernetes environments and containerized workloads that power the app Evolve CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and developer workflows so engineers can ship changes safely and efficiently Strengthen observability, alerting and incident response, leading investigations into production issues and driving improvements that prevent recurrence Plan for capacity, failure and recovery, building production readiness into every system while steadily reducing operational toil Operate and modernize shared data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL on RDS, Redis and Elasticsearch, covering backups, replication, migrations and performance tuning
Provide clear visibility into AWS and engineering tooling spend, identify optimization opportunities, and partner with business stakeholders on budgeting, forecasting, and infrastructure investment
Drive infrastructure security priorities alongside a senior external security advisor, translating risks and recommendations into concrete, prioritized work Collaborate with backend engineers on system architecture and operational simplicity, contributing directly to backend services when that is the most effective solution
⭐ What We’re Looking For
7+ years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps or infrastructure engineering, including ownership of production cloud environments
Deep hands-on expertise with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code using Terraform
Strong fundamentals in Linux, networking, and distributed systems, with a solid grounding in production operations
Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling and incident response processes
A track record of designing systems for failure and recovery, including capacity planning and production readiness
Experience operating production databases and shared data infrastructure such as PostgreSQL, Redis and Elasticsearch
Strong programming skills in Python, Go or a comparable language
Hands-on experience with cloud security, including IAM, vulnerability management and security reviews, ideally in partnership with security specialists
Experience managing cloud infrastructure costs and making informed trade-offs between cost, performance and reliability
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to both engineers and business stakeholders
🔥 What Makes This Role Exciting
Genuine Ownership: Take responsibility for the full infrastructure domain, with the autonomy to set priorities and decide how the platform is run Visible Impact: In a small engineering team, decisions move quickly, and every improvement to reliability, deployment or cost is felt across the company A Voice in the Product: Engineers are encouraged to contribute product ideas and take an active part in what gets built, rather than simply delivering to specification AI-Forward Engineering: Access to enterprise AI tools, with active encouragement to use them to automate routine work and improve how infrastructure is built and run Sustainable Pace: An established company with a steady working rhythm and flexible hours, rather than the pressure of a hypergrowth startup
