Build great solutions. Solve real problems. Work with people who know their craft.
We're a global technology consultancy helping organisations solve complex challenges through modern software solutions, data platforms, AI and intelligent automation.
We're looking for a hands-on Data Engineer with MS Fabric experience to join our NZ team. Whether you're an experienced contractor or looking for your next permanent opportunity, we're open to finding the right fit.
This is an opportunity to work on meaningful client engagements, solve interesting technical challenges and help shape how modern data engineering and AI are applied in real-world environments.
We're not just looking for someone who knows the technology. We want someone who knows how to use it to deliver great outcomes for customers .
What does the role look like?
You'll spend your time doing what good engineers enjoy: building, problem-solving and delivering solutions that work.
Working across Microsoft Fabric engagements, you'll turn business requirements into reliable, scalable data solutions. One day you might be developing pipelines and transformations, the next troubleshooting a data issue, optimising a Lakehouse architecture or working with analysts to deliver meaningful business insights.
But this isn't a role where you're handed a ticket and disappear until it's complete.
You'll work closely with engineers, technical leads and clients, asking good questions, challenging assumptions and taking ownership of your delivery. We value people who communicate clearly, bring ideas to the table and understand the business problem behind the technical work.
We're also embracing AI-native engineering and want people who are actively exploring how AI and agentic tools can improve development, productivity and quality.
What we're looking for
Strong, hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience is essential. This isn't a role for someone looking to learn Fabric from scratch.
Technically, you'll bring:
Practical experience with Microsoft Fabric , including Lakehouses, Warehouses, OneLake, Pipelines and Notebooks.
Strong SQL and PySpark skills, including data transformation and troubleshooting.
Experience with medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and Delta Lake.
Familiarity with Power BI, Fabric Semantic Models and DirectLake .
Experience with Git, Azure DevOps or GitHub , and CI/CD practices.
At least 2 years' relevant engineering experience , with demonstrated delivery capability.
Experience with dbt, data governance, Microsoft Purview or relevant Microsoft certifications is a bonus.
Beyond the technical skills...
We're a consultancy, and how you work matters just as much as what you know.
You'll be someone who:
Communicates well: Builds trust with clients and explains technical concepts clearly.
Takes ownership: Follows through, delivers quality work and doesn't need constant direction.
Thinks commercially: Understands the business problem, not just the technical task.
Adapts and solves problems: Thrives on variety, takes initiative and brings solutions, not just problems.
Embraces innovation: Actively explores GenAI and modern engineering practices.
Works well with others: Collaborative, approachable and comfortable engaging with different stakeholders.
Consulting or professional services experience is highly valued, but the right mindset and proven client-facing delivery experience matter more.
Why Provoke?
You'll join a collaborative team working with clients across different industries and markets, tackling diverse technical challenges and helping shape the next generation of data and AI solutions.
We value curiosity, accountability and people who get things done. You'll have the flexibility to work your way, support from experienced colleagues and opportunities to keep learning and growing.
A few important details:
Location: Anywhere in New Zealand. You must be NZ-based.
Engagement: Contract or permanent.
Working arrangements: Some availability required to collaborate with US-based clients (Pacific Time).
Interested?
If you're a capable Microsoft Fabric engineer who enjoys solving problems, working with clients and taking ownership of delivery, we'd love to hear from you.
