Role Overview
Lead with purpose. Build confidence. Make quality everyone's business.
Great software doesn't happen by accident. Behind every reliable release is someone who asks the right questions, identifies hidden risks, and knows that "it seems to work" isn't quite good enough.
We're looking for a Software QA Lead to join one of our Australian clients and take ownership of QA delivery, testing improvements, and team development.
Part technical expert, part people leader, you'll balance hands-on testing with coaching Test Analysts, strengthening test automation, and collaborating with Product, Business Analysis, and Engineering teams.
You'll help introduce smarter, risk-based testing practices, explore AI-assisted testing tools, and identify quality risks earlier in the software development lifecycle.
And yes, you'll still get your hands dirty with testing!
This is your opportunity to influence how software is tested, how teams collaborate, and how confidently products are released.
Your mission? Build quality into the process, not just test for it at the end.
Key Responsibilities
Lead daily QA activities, testing priorities, and delivery across Agile sprints and releases.
Perform functional, integration, exploratory, regression, and automated testing.
Test web applications, APIs, integrations, and distributed services.
Manage, coach, and mentor Test Analysts, including performance management and skills development.
Design, maintain, and improve automated test suites and regression testing coverage.
Implement risk-based testing strategies focused on critical business functionality.
Investigate complex defects across UI, API, SQL databases, and backend services.
Identify quality risks, testing dependencies, and potential release blockers.
Collaborate with Product, Business Analysis, and Engineering teams to clarify requirements and improve testability.
Support defect triage, root cause analysis, and release-readiness assessments.
Evaluate AI-assisted testing tools to improve testing efficiency and coverage while maintaining reliability and security.
Identify opportunities to improve QA processes, testing workflows, and defect prevention.
Promote shared accountability for software quality across development teams.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
6+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, Software Testing, or Quality Engineering.
Proven experience leading a QA team or function, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
Strong hands-on experience testing web applications, APIs, integrations, and distributed services.
Experience performing manual, functional, integration, exploratory, and regression testing.
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated tests.
Strong troubleshooting and defect investigation skills across UI, API, database, and backend service layers.
Working knowledge of SQL for database validation and defect investigation.
Understanding of risk-based testing, test coverage, defect management, and software quality practices.
Experience working in Agile software development environments.
Ability to assess quality risks and communicate testing progress and release readiness.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to balance hands-on technical testing with QA team leadership responsibilities.
Experience testing applications or services hosted on AWS .
Experience using AI-assisted testing tools or techniques.
Experience improving automated regression testing coverage, reliability, and maintainability.
