Description
At Ledgebrook , we’re building a next-generation insurance infrastructure — fast, smart, and scalable — and are looking for a Director of Ceded Reinsurance to lead reinsurance strategy, placement, and administration for Stonehaven Specialty Insurance Company, Ledgebrook ’s new third-party hybrid fronting carrier.
This role reports to the Chief Risk Officer and works closely with Actuarial, Finance, Claims, and the program teams. The Director of Ceded Reinsurance structures and places Stonehaven’s reinsurance, while counterparty approval and collateral verification sit independently with the Director of Credit & Collateral Risk.
About the Role
Stonehaven is seeking a Director of Ceded Reinsurance to structure, place, and administer the reinsurance behind every program on Stonehaven’s paper. The successful candidate will be an experienced reinsurance professional with deep treaty structuring and wording expertise, strong reinsurer and intermediary relationships, command of statutory reinsurance accounting and risk-transfer testing, and the operational discipline to keep cessions reconciled and recoverables collected.
What You'll Do:
Develop Stonehaven’s preferred treaty wording, including security, downgrade, offset, insolvency, and dispute-resolution terms, and apply it consistently across every program.
Structure and place reinsurance for each program, including quota shares with caps, sliding-scale and profit commissions, excess-of-loss and facultative cover, and whole-account placements that keep net retention within appetite.
Evaluate reinsurance that arrives attached to a program, and bring every reinsurer and collateral provider to the Director of Credit & Collateral Risk for independent approval before binding.
Perform risk-transfer testing on every treaty with Actuarial and Finance to preserve statutory credit and protect Schedule F.
Work with Actuarial to identify risk that is not ceded, including the tail above treaty caps and exposure that falls outside treaty terms.
Run cession operations: produce the data reinsurers require, reconcile cessions to the financials with Finance, and meet treaty reporting and notification requirements.
Manage reinsurance recoverables with Finance and Claims, including cash calls on large losses, and resolve disputes before they impair surplus.
Ensure every program has reinsurance bound before it quotes business, and plan renewals, commutations, and runoff, staggering renewal dates where practical.
Build the treaty contract management system with Technology so terms, subjectivities, renewals, and facultative placements are searchable and tracked.
Support the Reinsurance Security Committee and manage relationships with reinsurers, captives, and reinsurance intermediaries.
