Senior Software Engineer, Fulfillment Team

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Fulfillment Team, you'll own the core applications and algorithms that power our freight and Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) carrier network. You will design, build, and ship the critical backend systems that handle carrier profiles, fleet management, schedules, and onboarding workflows.

You will architect the core marketplace mechanics that handle automated dispatch, including matching shipments to carriers, scoring assignments, and managing the expiration of stale offers, across a high-velocity, real-time logistics infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of complex physical constraints and highly reliable software.

You will integrate routing, pricing, and payout rules to ensure shipments are serviced on-time and financial pipelines remain accurate. This is a deep, hands-on engineering position with complete autonomy where you will debug production issues, ship API endpoints and database migrations, and reliably operate background jobs and event-streaming workflows in production.

You will partner directly with Product, Operations, Data Science, and company leadership to scale a fault-tolerant carrier domain that demands absolute precision and execution speed.

Why This Role

You'll join a small, tight, talented team of engineers that moves quickly, operates autonomously, and stays focused on shipping. You won't be a small cog in a massive system. You'll be the engineer shaping the application architecture and its direct business impact. If you're driven by mission, addicted to hard problems, and obsessed with financial precision, this is where you'll do the best work of your career.

Core Tech Stack

• Based on current enterprise integrations and engineering standards, you will primarily work with:
• Languages & Frameworks: TypeScript, Node.js, React, NestJS, BullMQ
• Infrastructure & Datastores: Postgres, Redis, Kafka
• Core Systems & Integrations: Payment processing, routing/optimization tooling, CRM, LTL freight carrier APIs

Upcoming Initiatives

The Fulfillment team's mission is to service shipments reliably and economically at scale, provide customers maximum visibility, and reduce the need for manual support intervention in case of delays and problems.

Delivery Appointments: Give customers more control and better visibility over delivery appointments — letting them choose window tightness and how it's set, pricing the appointment fee based on length and setup complexity, and allowing customers to make changes. Appointments are a top customer pain point and a major driver of support tickets.

Partner LTL Tracking: Improve and evolve integrations with LTL carrier partners (who each provide varying levels of tracking data) to show customers the most accurate, up-to-date tracking information and let them relay updates back to carriers.

AI Agents for Delay Mitigation: Much of the freight industry still runs on humans and phone calls, and carrier API updates are often delayed. Build AI agents that call carrier support teams to get updates and resolve problems when APIs lag, delivering fast, human-like service at scale.

What You'll Do

Core Carrier Infrastructure: Engineer, scale, and evolve the microservices and dispatch backend software powering carrier routing, automated matching, and the LTL network.

Lifecycle Architecture: Take highly ambiguous freight-coordination problem statements, map them to physical-world constraints, design the technical schema, and ship clean, extensible code.

Pragmatic Value Delivery: Maintain strict execution discipline — aggressively cut scope to deliver high-frequency, incremental product value over complex, over-engineered systems.

Domain Immersion: Deeply understand the physical-world nuances of freight mechanics, load boarding, and driver workflows so technical designs map cleanly to operational realities.

Stewardship & Reliability: Lead deep dives into system reliability, debugging, and data correctness; own continuous improvement, monitoring, and alerting for deployed services.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner across engineering, product, and operations to design high-leverage product workflows that stay fast and resilient under scale.

What You Bring

4+ Years of Backend Experience: A proven track record building, scaling, or maintaining mission-critical backend systems in high-growth production environments where data integrity is non-negotiable.

Distributed Systems Architecture: Hands-on experience architecting resilient product infrastructure, microservices, and asynchronous event-driven data pipelines (Kafka/Redis).

Data Layer Mastery: Deep comfort with PostgreSQL — schema design, data modeling for complex business workflows, query performance optimization, production schema migrations, and concurrency handling.

System Design Fundamentals: You think naturally in data structures, state machines, race conditions, and asynchronous systems, and know exactly when and what trade-offs to make.

No-Ego Collaboration: Thoughtful communicator able to explain complex technical decisions clearly to both developers and business stakeholders, prioritizing team velocity and pragmatism over personal technical side-quests.
