👋 About Us
At bookingkit , Europe's leading booking and reservation software for tours and activities, big changes are on the horizon. Our goal by 2030 is to create an AI-powered Success Platform enabling Attractions like museums, sights, and theme parks to grow ticket sales and simplify ticket operations. And that's where you come in: you, as a Backend Software Engineer (m/f/d) to drive us forward on this exciting journey. This is a full-time (40h/week) position.
Hybrid or remote , the work setup choice is yours!
💭 Our dream candidate You are a highly capable backend engineer who finds joy in the complexity of distributed systems, API architecture, and infrastructure automation. You fit right in if you:
Drive the AI Future: You know how to work smarter, not just harder. You are expected to drive innovation, automating and optimizing the integration flow with agentic tools. From writing and reviewing code to optimizing the broader software development lifecycle, you use AI tools to boost efficiency, debug complex data flows, and solve problems faster.
Master Integration Platform: You thrive on solving integration challenges with a platform-first mindset. You favor building reusable components and scalable patterns over one-off, individual integrations. You understand how to map disparate data models, handle rate limits, and manage webhooks while treating the integration layer as a robust, secure, and well-documented product.
Architect for Reliability: You take full ownership of the systems you build. You proactively design for failure, implementing comprehensive monitoring and alerting strategies to ensure high availability. You treat infrastructure as a first-class citizen and are comfortable managing the lifecycle of cloud services.
Value Documentation: You believe that code is only as good as its documentation. You take pride in writing clear, maintainable technical guides that enable internal teams and external partners to succeed without friction.
Are a Systems & Product Thinker: You take end-to-end ownership of outcomes, applying systems and product thinking to look beyond individual services. You proactively identify bottlenecks and favor clean, modular architecture, while also taking accountability for driving the business impact of the solutions your team builds.
👤 Your role
You will lead the technical design and implementation of new partner integrations and platform features, blending technical expertise with product management to own the end-to-end delivery and business impact of your work.
You will own the full lifecycle of your services—from development and deployment to production monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
You will actively manage our AWS cloud infrastructure, writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to ensure environment parity and security.
You will evolve our integration strategy, championing a platform-first mindset that drives synergies across our integration ecosystem, while ensuring high-performance, secure communication between internal and external systems.
You will leverage cutting-edge AI-powered tools across the entire software development lifecycle—from system design and code generation to infrastructure automation, log analysis, and performance monitoring—to drive innovation and efficiency.
You will provide technical support and create high-quality documentation to ensure the long-term maintainability of our connectivity layer.
📋 Responsibilities
Lead technical design and implementation of partner integrations.
Own service lifecycle: develop, deploy, monitor, alert, and respond to incidents.
Manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform (IaC).
Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation for internal teams and partners.
Use AI agents and tools to automate infrastructure, log analysis, and performance monitoring.
Optimize system performance and ensure high availability of integration services.
✍🏼 Requirements
5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend development.
Strong API & Integration Experience : Deep understanding of RESTful API design, HTTP, authentication/OAuth, and webhook management.
GraphQL Familiarity : You understand GraphQL concepts, as this is required to interact effectively with the APIs of our partners.
DevOps/Cloud Skills : Proven experience with AWS (e.g., ECS, Lambda, RDS), CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
Observability : Strong experience setting up and maintaining monitoring and alerting solutions (e.g., New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Datadog).
Technical Documentation : Ability to translate complex system designs into clear, actionable documentation.
Solid experience with modern backend languages (e.g., PHP/Laravel and Node.js/TypeScript).
Expertise in database design (MySQL, NoSQL) and optimizing queries for large-scale data.
AI-based automation : Proficiency in integrating and leveraging AI-assisted programming and agents in your daily workflow.
Fluency in English, with strong communication skills for customer and partner-facing situations.
Experience with containerization (Docker).
🎀 Nice to have
Experience building "connector" layers or integration platforms.
Familiarity with travel industry and booking platform connectivity standards (e.g., OCTO).
Knowledge of e-commerce platforms, payment processing, or accounting data structures.
Experience building agentic applications.
Additional European languages - especially German or Italian - are a plus.
Experience with technical product management, bridging the gap between engineering and business outcomes.
